Admired by the public of many countries, Lilia Donkova was born in Sofia, granddaughter of the Bulgarian composer and professor Bentzion Eliezer. Lilia has established herself as a successful soloist and chamber musician. Soon after graduating from the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Porf. Lydia Mordkovich, she did her debut recital at The Weill Hall- Carnegie Hall and two years later at the Stern Auditorium under the baton of John Rutter. Ever since, she has performed as a soloist at major venues throughout Europe such as The Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), Smetana Hall (Prague), Verdi Hall (Milano). Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Muth Concert Hall (Vienna), CCB (Lisbon), Bulgaria Hall (Sofia), as well as in the USA and México amongst other, receiving great reviews.

At the same time, Lilia has been the Concertmaster of Cascais & Oeiras Chamber Orchestra since 2006, and Cascais Symphony Orchestra in Portugal. She has recorded several CD’s including debut recordings.

Lilia enjoys also performing less known and newly written repertoire. Her biggest passion is the chamber music, having an established duo with piano, with cello and altogether as a trio. She also plays regularly in a duo with accordion. Her latest project includes exploring the repertoire written for baritone, violin and piano, performing originals as well as own arrangements with a staging approach.

Alongside her performance career, Lilia has been teaching for many years having also been invited to give several masterclasses. 

She is also interested in research and has a PhD in Music from University of Évora, having her thesis on Portuguese composer Lopes-Graça been awarded with Distinction and Honors and been presented at various Symposiums. 

Lilia has also been invited as a jury member at competitions and higher education assessments.

Lilia Donkova, neta de um dos mais famosos compositores e pedagogos búlgaros, Bentzion Eliezer, nasceu em Sófia, Bulgária. Terminou o curso superior e de pós-graduação na Royal Academy of Music de Londres com a prof. Lydia Mordkovich, recebendo um premio especial pelo seu exame final. Ainda como jovem e durante os seus estudos na Royal Academy foram-lhe atribuídos vários prémios e bolsas de estudo. É doutorada pela universidade de Évora.

Como solista Lilia tem vindo a desenvolver uma intensa atividade concertista. Participou em vários festivais internacionais em diversos países da Europa, EUA  e México. Apresentou-se em grandes salas como o Grande Auditório Stern e Weill Recital Hall do Carnegie Hall em Nova York, Queen Elizabeth Hall em Londres, Sala Verdi em Milão, Teatro Filarmonico em Verona, Smetana Hall em Praga, e Muth em Viena, recebendo excelentes críticas pelas suas atuações.

 

Deu o seu primeiro curso de violino em Miami University – Estados Unidos em 2008.

 

Em 2009 Lilia gravou o seu primeiro CD intitulado Cantabile que inclui algumas das mais famosas peças escritas para violino e piano. Desde então, tem vindo a participar em diversas gravações de projetos pela Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras, que incluem obras de vários compositores portugueses.

Em 2014 iniciou um projeto com o acordeonista Gonçalo Pescada que já conta com um álbum editado – Symbiosis. Também realizou uma gravação inédita da Sonata para violino e piano de J. García Leoz com o pianista Rinaldo Zhok pela editora Odradek.

 

Lilia é concertino da Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais e Oeiras e professora de violino no Conservatório de Música de Cascais.
